Present Experience ... for a better future !!

If you have read the newspapers or watched television during the past years, you might have wondered if our Indian people will survive another decade. And if they do, what sort of future they will have. With all the BPO's (my work place :-), the software companies sourcing their work to us "Bangaloreans".

In the past years, Indians are facing a crisis with education as well as justice. There is fear that people are not truly represented in their desired fields of work at times. While people who are good for nothing, cry about ten people out of a hundred being unable to find a job, some reservations have only ten percent working. Then there are the problems of family breakdowns, drug and alcohol abuse, suicide and rising crime rates. It is not a pretty picture right guys! We Bangaloreans have seen the good old days when it was less crowded to the present days where we feel we are going to die with this kind of everyday traffic and pollution. But coming from a reserve, I look behind the scenes at the people themselves and I see some things different. The problems are still there, but I see people who want to do something about them. They want a chance to shape their own future and the future of their children. I see people who have been crushed and bruised, but who are trying very hard to get back on their feet. They want a chance to make a place for themselves in modern day society.

The Good old days

The history of the Indian people is one of strength, love and discipline. Our forefathers lived under a very strong tradition. They had complete trust in the Great Spirit. They had purpose in life, and a place of their own with physical, emotional and spiritual dignity. Because there was no written system, the record of spiritual teaching was not put in a book. It was passed on by word of mouth, with old people telling the young, generation after generation. But very few would agree on this :-(

Destroyed by change

Then the white man came with his culture has seeped into our Indian culture. Our people were faced with a great, sudden change in their style of life. Things that took the Americans 300 years to learn and accept were supposed to be adopted by the Indian in only a couple of years. This shock of this change is very great. It destroyed many of the cultural and traditional values. As a result, many of our people gave up hope. Like me, i mean it. I lost the Indian culture touch altogether, ask my friends Loky, Ashok and Harsha, they know it.

Waking up

The awakening of the Indians to out culture back to it's glory would be very very difficult, with the rush of international company's employing people in India. Of course the generation to come wouldn't even know as to what our Indian culture is all about?

A bright future

As I look at all the resources that are available to the Indians now, I can see that our future is bright. At the same time people like me are out into the modern material things in life rather than our culture & tradition.

Today’s Question:Do you agree that Indian Culture & Tradition is in condensation status?

This is a good question - but what exactly do you mean by our culture? I mean, do you mean good old values like honesty, caring, giving, or do you mean going to the temple on a daily basis or whatever? And while I agree that some aspects of American culture have had a negative effect on Indian culture, I hardly think that the Indian culture is weak enough to be destroyed by outside forces, because if you say this, then you're saying that external forces are stronger than India... What do you think? And nowadays it's India that's spreading everywhere, the culture, the traditions and medicinal beliefs.

I wud say i would not totally agree on the westernization of INDIAN culture, yes it has influenced our young generation for a greater extent, but I would still feel it has not reached a point of no return. If we the youth start looking back @ our own culture nothing has changed, I mean if you think modern clothing, going to pubs, shopping @ malls depicts our change, then I feel it is wrong..coz if you see we (INDIANS) are still attached to our families, relationships. Still in INDIA we respect our Parents at any point of time. I would rather say, Adapting to change is fine, but do not forget the Values in LIFE (which our INDIAN culture preaches), but @ the same time when the whole world is looking @ INDIA for betterment of their lives we INDIANS should have been way ahead of them, but unfortunately we are learning their culture. I feel it all lies in the hands of the YOUTH OF THE NATION. At this point i remember the lyrics of YOUTH OF THE NATION by P.O.D.
Who's to blame for the lives that tragedies claim
No matter what you say
It don't take away the pain

That I feel inside, I'm tired of all the lies
Don't nobody know why
It's the blind leading the blind

I guess that's the way the story goes
Will it ever make sense
Somebody's got to know

There's got to be more to life than this
There's got to be more to everything
I thought exists

Culture like almost everything else is a constantly evolving entity.

The basic values of mutual respect, tolerance & honesty are universal across religions, regions or 'cultures' if you want to use that word.
