You know what ??? you would be shocked as i was when i found what i found. I wanted this to be shared among the people of india who would be reading my Blog Page. nononononon am not ashamed of what's my countries halat is when it comes to poverty, am happy am atleast intrested what's happening and hope you too would agree on knowing more.. things that are bothering people like us at the back of our minds. But never seriously thought about it. Did you Know that?
Even more than 50 years after independence from almost two centuries of British rule, large scale poverty remains the most shameful blot on the face of India.
India still has the world’s largest number of poor people in a single country. Of its nearly 1 billion inhabitants, an estimated 350-400 million are below the poverty line, 75 per cent of them in the rural areas.
More than 40 per cent of the population is illiterate, with women, tribal and scheduled castes particularly affected.
It would be incorrect to say that all poverty reduction programmes have failed. The growth of the middle class (which was virtually non-existent when India became a free nation in August 1947) indicates that economic prosperity has indeed been very impressive in India, but the DISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH has been very uneven.
The main causes of poverty are illiteracy, a population growth rate by far exceeding the economic growth rate for the better part of the past 50 years, protectionist policies pursued since 1947 to 1991 which prevented large amounts of foreign investment in the country.
Poverty alleviation is expected to make better progress in the next 50 years than in the past, as a trickle-down effect of the growing middle class. Increasing stress on education, reservation of seats in government jobs and the increasing empowerment of women and the economically weaker sections of society, are also expected to contribute to the alleviation of poverty.
Eradication of poverty can only be a very long-term goal in India.

And coming to the actual comment -one interesting question this BBC debate touched upon was about what is going to be the role of the private sector in delivering and contributing to the Millennium Development Goals? Especially when it is so strongly recognised that the formulation of these grand MDGs by governments is at a striking contrast with the lack of actual delivery.
Food for this thought: a news article Corporates bringing in technology to Indian schools I came across just today reads: "Wipro has its Applying Thought In Schools Programme; Intel has its Intel Innovation in Education, while Microsoft has embarked on its project Shiksha initiative. With all these interventions, corporates are now targeting school students in a major way in order to leaverage technology in education." This is just one example... but of course we need to move beyond to ask who are those who actually get to go to these technologically advanced schools... and who are those who would never have the opportunity? And what after all is appropriate education? Could it be something contextual - what is the significance of the fostering of local knowhow? Or do we just blindly stare into all this hi-tech stuff etc...
Of course i did check their sites, but it ddn't make any sense so just came out of them.. hahah . Who would know me better than you !No jaan!! we cannot blindly stare what's going to happen with these hi-tech stuff. Younger generation should be appropriately given an oppurtunity to opt for and learn. At the same time what the big corporates are doing is wonderful but it wouldn't reach the real people as such. you know what i mean. Even if tend to ask who are these people who woul actuallt get to go to these tech savvy advanced schools. ?????? there would be no answer as such as everyone would want the best of the rich into their institutions. Ever few of these kind of corporate people would like to admit someone from a very low class and actually let him use these techie advanced education. Hope some one knows what am trying to tell. Wish the best for the world for all it's future generations to make this world a better place.
